The principle
Nothing that depends on your consent loads before you give it. Until you choose, and if you refuse, no analytics tag is loaded and no request is made to any third-party server. This is not merely a consent setting: the tag itself is never inserted into the page.
Necessary cookies
We store locally, in your browser, a single record holding your cookie choice, the date you made it and the version of this policy it relates to. Without it we would have to ask you on every page. It is not used to identify you or for any other purpose, and it is never sent to a server. Each address (buteo.pt and app.buteo.pt) keeps its own choice, and each asks separately.
Analytics cookies
With your permission we use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read, in which language and from what source. It informs what we write next. If you refuse, the service is not loaded at all. The same rules apply in the application (app.buteo.pt). In the application we measure which pages are opened, identified by the shape of the address and never by the real address, and a few steps such as signing up, verifying a domain, starting a scan or choosing a plan. We do not send Google your name, your email, your organisation, the domains you audit or any account identifier. The Google Analytics cookie is tied to the buteo.pt domain, so the same visit is recognised when moving from one of these addresses to another, provided you allowed analytics on both.
Your choice is not permanent
The record of your choice expires after one hundred and eighty days, after which we ask again, in line with the guidance of the Portuguese data protection authority. If we materially change this policy we likewise ask again, rather than assuming that permission given to the previous text still stands.
How to change your choice
The cookie preferences link, in the footer of any page, reopens the choice dialog and lets you withdraw permission as easily as it was given. You can also delete the data this site has stored in your browser through the browser's own settings.
